Grounded & Creative Practice with Myrna Velasco
I cultivated a love of yoga as a 14 year old girl, after suffering from a dance injury and feeling abandoned by a musical theater program because of it. When I turned to yoga, I gained a sense of relaxation and peace within my own body that I had never known before. Growing up with a yoga practice inspired me to give others the peace and joy I have found through a yoga mindset in the ‘Acting Studio’.
As I learned to navigate the collegiate years and early adulthood as an actress in Los Angeles, yoga was always there for me. Like a long time friend, no matter how frustrated I was with non-transferable credits or with being passed up for a voice over role I loved, my yoga mat and the instructions always held space for me and all my frustrations.
Having practiced for half my life, I decided it was my turn to give what I had come to love about yoga and have developed a style of teaching that includes trauma-informed yoga, growth mindset theory, and healing through imaginative performance.
I practice to strengthen my knowledge of the human form and the philosophy of yoga. Every time I step onto my mat, I gain a deeper understanding of myself and deeper patience for the industry I participate in. Yoga is my grounding rod in this life. I am deeply committed to social justice and healing, and as a yoga teacher I strive to loosen the grip of trauma within our inner children that desire play.
A grounding and releasing yoga practice for the actor with time and place for contemplation on navigating the Acting Business while staying true to yourself.
What to Bring to Class:
- Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
- If you have blocks, a strap and a blanket to practice with, great! If not, totally cool too, usually its nice to have a belt or pillows around for extra support.
- Please place webcam/ laptop camera in a place where I can see you from head to toe (Full Body Shot), and with space for movement.
